The Unwavering Justice of God
In a world where morality seems to be constantly shifting, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that right and wrong are relative. But Scripture reminds us that God’s justice is unwavering and unchanging.
A Timeless Truth
The words of Isaiah, penned thousands of years ago, eerily echo the state of our society today: “Justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter” (Isaiah 59:14-15). It’s a stark reminder that the concept of justice is not a human construct, but a divine one.
The Source of Justice
As Christians, we often struggle to reconcile God’s wrath with our own sense of fairness. But John’s words in Revelation 15:3-4 remind us that God’s ways are just and true. He is the embodiment of righteousness, justice, and truth. All of creation will ultimately worship Him because of these attributes.
A Humble Approach
So how do we approach difficult passages that seem to contradict our own sense of justice? With humility. We must recognize that our limited knowledge and perspective make it absurd for us to judge God. Instead, we affirm the truth of God’s character and submit to the Holy Spirit for guidance, asking Him to show us how to correctly view His justice.
A Prayer of Trust
Lord God Almighty, you are just and true. Show me how to think and speak and live in a way that reflects that reality. There are so many things that I don’t understand; give me faith to believe that you are who you say you are. Amen.
Reflecting on God’s Justice
As we navigate the complexities of life, let us remember that our internal sense of justice comes from being made in the image of the true and just God. May we approach difficult questions with humility, submitting to the Holy Spirit for guidance, and trusting in the unwavering justice of our Lord.
