From Self to Savior: Finding Lasting Joy in Christ

Finding Lasting Joy in a Self-Centered World

In today’s society, we’re constantly striving for perfection, trying to become the best version of ourselves. We fuel our days with coffee, positive self-talk, and determination. But eventually, we reach our limits, and the emptiness sets in. We collapse, exhausted, and wonder why this isn’t working.

The Problem with Self-Help

When we rely solely on ourselves for meaning and satisfaction, we create a cycle of self-worship. We become our own source of fulfillment, but this only leads to temporary happiness and relief from stress. True joy eludes us, and we’re left feeling unfulfilled.

Reclaiming Our Worldview

To find lasting joy, we need to remember who we are and whose we are. We were created by God, for God, and our purpose is to live for His glory. We must reject the self-help movement and reorient ourselves towards our Maker. Healing begins in our souls when we root ourselves in what’s true.

Dying to Ourselves

In God’s economy, dying to oneself leads to lasting joy. When we surrender our lives to Him, we find true fulfillment. We no longer have to strive for greatness, because our worth is found in Christ.

Running on the Right Fuel

We were made to run on the fuel of God Himself. When we acknowledge our dependence on Him, we find joy in both life’s highs and lows. Our relationship with God is the key to lasting happiness.

Shifting Our Focus

Our culture draws our eyes back to ourselves, but they belong on Jesus. We must acknowledge, confess, repent, and repeat. The truth that we are dependent beings, made by God and for God, is liberating. We no longer have to clamor for success, because our lives are not our own.

Resting in the Gospel

The gospel is the most nourishing food for our souls, and it’s devoid of self. It’s all about Christ crucified, risen, and coming again. We can rest because of the gospel, knowing that we are rooted, built up, and established in Christ.

Denying Ourselves

The calling Jesus gives His followers is to deny ourselves and lose our lives. This will present itself in unique ways, but it will always demand that we surrender our will to His. Only one thing can cure our anxiety and fragility: Jesus and Him crucified, risen, and coming again.
