Here are four prayers to pray through spiritual darkness:
- “Dear Lord, I know that you are near and read to defend, protect, and preserve those you love. I am weary of my own inability to see your goodness in my life, and I long for the consolation of your presence.”
—Jeremy Taylor
- “I am consumed by my own guilt and shame, but I ask that you would wash me clean with the precious blood of Christ. Let me be assured of your pardon and forgiveness, and may my conscience be at peace.”
—The Book of Common Prayer
- “O Lord, we beseech you, mercifully hear our prayer, and stretch forth your mighty hand to defend us; that the evil which our enemies do intend against us may be turned against themselves, and that we, being devoted to your service, may pass our time in rest and quietness.”
—Thomas Cranmer
- “May I never forget that you are my Rock, my Refuge, and my Savior. May I always turn to you in times of trouble, and may I find comfort in your presence.”
—Charles Spurgeon
These prayers, along with passages from Scripture, remind us that God is our Rock, Refuge, and Savior. He is near and ready to defend, protect, and preserve those he loves. We can turn to him in times of despair and discouragement, knowing that he hears us.
