When Life Gets Tough, Dress for Success

As I reflect on the countless stories of struggle and perseverance that flood my inbox, I’m reminded of the timeless wisdom in Colossians 3:12-15. In the midst of turmoil, it’s easy to feel lost and uncertain about how to navigate the challenges that come our way. But what if I told you there’s a simple yet powerful way to rise above the chaos?

Imagine starting your day by intentionally “dressing” yourself in the virtues that bring hope and healing to those around you. It’s not about putting on a physical outfit, but rather cloaking yourself in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. These are the very characteristics that can bring unity and peace to even the most fractured situations.

As you face the trials of the day, remember that forgiveness is key. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so too can you extend that same mercy to others. And above all, wrap yourself in the cloak of love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

But how do you keep these divine qualities top of mind when the world around you seems to be spinning out of control? It begins with a deliberate choice to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance and strength. Ask for His help in demonstrating these virtues as you walk through the fire. Be specific in your prayers, and watch as God’s peace begins to rule in your heart.

As you go about your day, remember that you’re not just a passive observer – you’re an active participant in bringing hope and peace to those around you. Your presence can be a calming influence, a beacon of light in the darkness. So take a deep breath, put on the characteristics that only God can give, and trust that His presence will shine through you.

Father God, I need Your Spirit to soften my heart today. In the midst of hardship, may I be a vessel for Your peace and presence. Stir within me a heart of gratitude, and use my life to bring Your calming influence to those around me. I ask this in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

What practices help you keep these divine characteristics at the forefront of your mind?
