God’s Intimate Knowledge of Us
The psalmist declares, “O LORD, you have searched me and known me!” (Psalm 139:1). This verse sets the tone for the entire psalm, emphasizing God’s all-encompassing knowledge of humanity. He knows our thoughts, actions, and intentions, even before we speak or act. This profound understanding is both comforting and humbling, as we realize that God’s gaze is upon us at all times.
God’s Sovereignty Over All
In Jeremiah 1:5, God reveals His sovereignty over human life, stating, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” This passage underscores God’s complete control over our lives, from conception to our calling. He knows the intricate details of our existence, and His plan for us is already in motion.
God’s Providential Care
Jesus teaches us about God’s providential care in Luke 12:6-7, saying, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” This passage highlights God’s attention to even the smallest details of life, assuring us that we are of greater value to Him than any created thing.

In Psalm 33:13-15, we read, “The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth.” This passage emphasizes God’s all-seeing gaze, which discerns the deeds of humanity. God’s Unsearchable Ways
In Isaiah 40:13-14, we are reminded of God’s infinite wisdom, which surpasses human understanding. The prophet asks, “Who has measured the Spirit of the LORD, or what man shows him his counsel? Whom did he consult, and who made him understand?” This passage underscores God’s unique power and wisdom, making Him worthy of our trust.
God’s Living and Active Word
Hebrews 4:12-13 describes the Word of God as “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” This passage portrays the Word as God’s personal utterance, exposing our innermost thoughts and intentions. The Word acts as God Himself, constantly at work in the lives of believers.
God’s Sovereignty and Human Responsibility
In Acts 2:23, Peter affirms God’s sovereignty over world events, stating, “this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” This passage highlights the tension between God’s sovereignty and human responsibility, emphasizing that both are true and compatible.
God’s Greater Knowledge
Finally, in 1 John 3:20, we are comforted by the knowledge that “whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.” This passage assures us that even when we are aware of our own sin, God’s knowledge and forgiveness are greater than our condemnation.
