**Unveiling the Essence of God**
As I reflect on my own journey, I realize how easily our perceptions of God can become distorted by childhood memories, personal experiences, and unmet expectations. It’s as if we’re trying to fit God into a mold of our own making, rather than allowing Him to reveal Himself to us in all His glory.
**The Self-Existent One**
In Exodus 34:6-7, God proclaims His name to Moses, revealing His true nature. The Hebrew consonants “YHWH” translate to “I AM,” a name so sacred that Jews dared not speak it aloud. This self-existent God corrects the Israelites’ misconceptions, declaring that He is not a creation of human hands, but a merciful and gracious Being who has always been.
**Mercy and Justice Entwined**
Although the Israelites deserved punishment for their idolatry, God relented when Moses interceded on their behalf. This paradox of mercy and justice is a mystery that would only be fully understood through Jesus’ sacrifice. Yet, the Bible has consistently revealed God’s character: forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, while refusing to clear the guilty.
**A God of Steadfast Love**
The Israelites’ faithlessness and grumbling did not alter God’s abounding love. He remains steadfast, unwavering in His commitment to His people. This love is not based on human emotions, but on God’s very essence.
**A Prayer of Surrender**
As I reflect on God’s revelation to Moses, I am humbled. May I, like Moses, bow my head in worship, acknowledging God’s mercy, graciousness, and steadfast love. Teach me, Lord, to think rightly about who You are, and may I surrender to Your holy presence. Amen.
