A Nation Founded on Faith
The debate rages on: is our country a Christian nation? While we may not be officially recognized as such, our roots are undeniably grounded in Judeo-Christian values. The pilgrims who settled this land brought with them a strong faith, which shaped the very fabric of our society.
A Heritage of Faith
From the doors of our public buildings to the currency in our pockets, reminders of our trust in God surround us. The Ten Commandments adorn the chambers of the Supreme Court, and prayer marks the beginning of each legislative session. Our national anthem proudly declares us “one nation under God.” As President Ronald Reagan so eloquently put it, “If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
A Nation in Need of Revival
But are we forgetting our heritage? A glance at the prevailing worldview suggests we are. God is often absent from the radar of many, and biblical literacy and church attendance are at an all-time low. The media frequently mocks biblical values, and the government has taken a decidedly secular turn. It’s easy to feel discouraged, but Edmund Burke’s wisdom reminds us that “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
The Solution Lies in Revival
As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let us not forget that the solutions to our problems don’t lie in the courts or legislative chambers. True transformation begins at the altar of Christ, where we humbly submit to Him and dedicate our lives and our country to His will. Only through revival can America return to its Judeo-Christian roots.
A Prayer for Mercy
As Psalm 33:21-22 so beautifully expresses, “For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let thy mercy O Lord be upon us, according as we hope in thee.” May our hearts rejoice in Him, and may His mercy be upon us as we place our hope in Him.
