A Heartfelt Reminder: We Were Never Meant to Go It Alone
As I reflect on a memorable encounter from years past, I’m reminded of the inherent need we all have for guidance and protection. I was driving home when I spotted a tiny tot, no more than three years old, pedaling his tricycle on a bustling street. With no adult in sight, I instinctively pulled over to intervene.
A Chance Encounter with Daniel
I approached the little boy, who introduced himself as Daniel. Despite the chaos surrounding him, he showed no fear of me or the speeding cars. I gently explained to him that tricycles belong on sidewalks, not roads. He nodded in agreement, allowing me to escort him to safety. As we walked together, I asked Daniel where he lived, but all he could offer was “this way.” Without access to cell phones back then, I had no choice but to accompany him until we found his frantic family members.
A Spiritual Parallel
As I watched Daniel reunite with his relieved loved ones, I couldn’t help but draw a spiritual parallel. Just as Daniel needed someone to keep him safe from physical harm, we all need guidance and protection from the dangers that lurk in life. We were never intended to navigate this journey alone. God loves us and seeks to guide us through life’s challenges.
The God-Shaped Vacuum
The French philosopher Blaise Pascal aptly described this innate longing when he said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.” King David echoed this sentiment in Psalm 63:1, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
A Call to Reflection
Are you currently doing life without God? Do you feel an unquenchable thirst, a sense of emptiness that earthly things cannot satisfy? Perhaps it’s time to acknowledge the God-shaped vacuum within you and invite Him to guide you back onto the path of safety and fulfillment.
