Morning Revival
As I lay in bed, the alarm blaring at 3:00 a.m., I couldn’t help but think of Lamentations 3:22-23, “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning.” These words echoed in my mind as I began my day, still half asleep.
The Autopilot Mode
My husband had an early morning cross-country flight, and I was tasked with driving him to the airport. Our well-rehearsed routine kicked in – suitcases packed, travel clothes laid out, juice prepared – we were a finely tuned machine. But as I drove back home, all I could think about was slipping back under the covers for another two hours of sleep. Unfortunately, my restless tossing only led to a groggy morning.
A Spiritual Parallel
As I went about my day, I realized that my spiritual life was suffering from a similar lack of refreshment. Without taking time to quietly sit in God’s presence, slowly read His Word, and pray, I was operating on autopilot, going through the motions without enthusiasm or energy. This spiritual state is all too familiar, and it’s a warning sign that I need to reconnect with God.
The Consequences of Neglect
Just as our bodies need sufficient sleep to function properly, our spiritual lives require regular refreshment to thrive. Without it, we risk spiritual disaster. I was grateful for the revitalizing sleep I got the next night, but I knew that neglecting my spiritual well-being would have far-reaching consequences.
Daily Revival
As I reflect on Lamentations 3:22-23, I’m reminded that God’s love is new every morning. It’s a daily gift, waiting to be unwrapped and experienced. I pray that I would make time to taste this love, to bask in His presence, and to find vitality in our daily interactions. Father, thank you for the life-giving power of your love.
