Empowered for a Global Mission
As we reflect on the Great Commission, Jesus’ final instructions to his disciples take center stage: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:18-20, NLT).
A Call to Action
The popular 1960s TV show “Mission Impossible” coined the phrase “Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” But Jesus’ command to his followers was unequivocal: “Go!” No conditions, no excuses. This mandate remains just as relevant today as it was to the disciples on that hillside in Israel.
A World Transformed
The early Christians took Jesus’ words to heart, and their obedience changed the course of history. Today, people worldwide continue to respond to Jesus’ call, often at great personal risk. They creatively seek ways to share the Gospel in uncharted territories, fueled by their trust in Jesus’ presence, power, and authority.
Confidence in Christ
Unlike any earthly power, Jesus provides unparalleled strength and resources to his followers. This assurance emboldens us to carry out our mission with confidence, knowing that our world can be transformed.
A Personal Reflection
Father, I confess that my confidence falters when faced with the enormity of making disciples globally. Teach me to trust you more deeply, even in the smallest things, so I may boldly accept your mission and join the ranks of those changing the world.
