Embracing a New Legacy
As believers, we’re often reminded that our identity is rooted in Christ, not our earthly heritage. The apostle Paul wrote, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come; the old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This profound truth has far-reaching implications for our lives.
Uncovering Hidden Roots
Recently, my husband embarked on a fascinating journey to uncover our family’s hidden roots. Hours of research revealed surprising connections, forgotten relatives, and even telling physical characteristics – like the unmistakable “Cousin Fred ear” – that linked our ancestors. Similarly, I once had the opportunity to connect with long-lost family members, exchanging stories and discovering a disturbing pattern of inherited health issues. Though we can’t erase our genetic predispositions, we can take proactive steps to mitigate their impact by adopting healthy habits and lifestyles.
A Divine Family Tree
But what about our spiritual heritage? When we invite Christ into our lives, we’re adopted into God’s family, and our old selves are replaced by new creations. The residual effects of our former lives may linger, but through the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, we’re reborn with new spiritual “DNA.” As Oswald Chambers so eloquently put it, “The great marvel of Jesus Christ’s salvation is that He alters heredity.” We’re no longer bound by our earthly lineage; instead, we’re being remade in the image of our heavenly Father and Brother Christ.
A New Legacy Unfolds
As we walk in our newfound identity, we begin to reflect the character of our divine family. We’re not merely recipients of a new spiritual heritage; we’re also ambassadors of God’s love, called to share this life-changing message with others. So let’s celebrate our adoption into God’s family and live out our new legacy with purpose and passion!
