Finding Joy in the Midst of Sorrow
A Precious Psalm
As I reflected on Psalm 16:11, I was struck by the phrase “fullness of joy.” It seemed like an unattainable dream, especially considering the series of negative events that had recently unfolded in my life. But as I delved deeper into the psalm, I was met with a profound realization: this passage speaks of my Savior, who faced unimaginable suffering with unwavering confidence in His Father.
The Source of Joy
Jesus Christ, the ultimate treasure, endured the path from death to life, and ultimately returned to God’s presence, where “there are pleasures for evermore.” As I gazed upon His majesty, my heart swelled with joy, and my spirit rejoiced in who He is and what He has accomplished. In that moment, my personal struggles seemed insignificant in comparison.
A Golden Psalm
According to Matthew Henry, Psalm 16 is a “golden psalm,” a treasure more precious than gold. It speaks plainly of Christ and His resurrection, reminding us that He is the true treasure. As I meditated on this psalm, I was reminded to always look to Christ as my true Treasure, and with Him, find “fullness of joy” in God’s presence.
May We Always Look to Christ
My prayer is that I may always turn my eyes to Christ, my precious Savior, and find joy in His presence. May we all be reminded that true joy is not found in our circumstances, but in the presence of our loving God, where “there are pleasures for evermore.”
