Suffering for Christ: A Badge of Courage

The Privilege of Suffering for Christ

When we think about our faith, we often focus on the joy and blessings that come with believing in Jesus. But what about the flip side? What about when our commitment to Christ leads to hardship and suffering? Today’s verse from Philippians 1:29 reminds us that suffering for Christ is not only a possibility, but a privilege.

A Privilege, Not a Hardship

In the book of Acts, we see the disciples rejoicing at the opportunity to suffer for the sake of Christ’s name. They didn’t view it as a burden, but as an honor to be associated with their Lord. This perspective is foreign to our natural way of thinking, where we often try to avoid pain and difficulty at all costs. But for Jesus’ followers, suffering becomes a badge of courage and a testament to their unwavering commitment.

Under Fire, Our True Colors Shine

It’s easy to proclaim our faith when everything is going well, but what about when we’re faced with challenges and opposition? That’s when our true commitment is revealed. The skeptics of the world often watch us closely, waiting to see if our faith is genuine. And it’s precisely in those moments of trial that we have the opportunity to demonstrate the authenticity of our devotion to Christ.

Exalting the Name of Jesus

As we pray, let’s remember the precious name of Jesus, given to us by our heavenly Father. May we exalt that name in all the earth and throughout all the heavens, until every corner of existence acknowledges His lordship. Through Jesus, we pray. Amen.
