When Obedience Defies Logic
As a seasoned fisherman, Peter had spent his entire life on the water. He knew every trick in the book, every hidden spot, and every nuance of the tides. But on one fateful morning, after a long, fruitless night of fishing, Peter was ready to call it quits. His body ached, his eyes drooped, and his nets were empty. Yet, Jesus had other plans.
A Challenge to Trust
“Put out into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch,” Jesus instructed Peter. Peter’s initial response was skepticism. “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything,” he said. But then came the pivotal moment: “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Peter chose to surrender his pride, his fatigue, and his doubts to Jesus.
The Power of Obedience
The result was nothing short of miraculous. The nets began to break under the weight of the fish, and Peter’s partners had to come to his aid. Both boats were filled to the brim, threatening to sink under the sheer abundance of fish. This remarkable outcome was not due to Peter’s expertise or luck, but rather his willingness to obey Jesus, even when it didn’t make sense.
Discerning God’s Voice
Sometimes, God asks us to do things that defy logic or seem untimely. In those moments, we must remember that obedience is what matters most. But how can we be certain it’s God’s voice we’re hearing? The answer lies in His character and Word. God will never instruct us to do something that contradicts His nature or Scripture.
A Prayer for Obedience
Dear God, help me to listen carefully and obey promptly, even when it’s difficult or doesn’t make sense. May my trust in You be unwavering, and may my obedience bring glory to Your name. Amen.
