Embracing True Humility: Dying to Self
As we go about our daily lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the illusion of control. We think we’re in charge, that our plans and desires are what matter most. But what if we were to wake up each morning with the understanding that today could be our last day on earth? Would our priorities shift? Would our attitude towards others change?
The Battle Within
The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “I face death daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31). For Paul, this wasn’t just a figure of speech; it was a reality he lived out every day. He had died to his own desires, his own flesh, and his own control. This is the essence of true humility – surrendering our lives to Christ Jesus, allowing His Spirit to guide us.
Living in Christ, Not in Ourselves
Jesus taught us to pray, “Father, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10). But how can we truly live out this prayer if we’re still clinging to our own agendas? True humility requires us to let go of our control, our pride, and our desires. It means living daily in Christ Jesus, not in ourselves.
The Uncertainty of Life
If your life feels stagnant, lacking a sense of purpose, it may be due to a lack of humility. When we cling to our own control, we shut out the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We become deaf to His whispers, blind to His leading.
A Morning Prayer
This morning, take a moment to thank God for the gift of life. Then, die to yourself. Let go of your control, your pride, and your desires. Allow the Spirit of God to guide you, to lead you, and to direct your steps. As you do, you’ll begin to experience the life-altering power of true humility.
Practical Humility
So, what does this kind of humility look like in our daily lives? How will it change the way we live, the way we interact with others? These are questions worth exploring. Will you take the first step today, surrendering your life to Christ, and allowing His Spirit to guide you?
