The Unseen Advantage
Have you ever found yourself thinking, “If only I could see Jesus, I’d be a better Christian”? It’s a tempting notion, isn’t it? To have the physical presence of Jesus right beside us, guiding us every step of the way. But let’s be honest, would it really make a difference?
The Human Condition
The disciples who walked alongside Jesus during his earthly ministry struggled with the same flaws we do today: selfishness, doubt, and greed. Despite being in the physical presence of the Son of God, they still had to confront their own weaknesses. Jesus’ piercing questions still echo through the ages: “Do you still have no faith? Why are you so afraid? Don’t you understand yet?”
The Gift of the Spirit
But here’s the remarkable thing: we don’t need to rely on physical proximity to experience Jesus. The Spirit of God lives within us, guiding and empowering us to live out our faith. We’re no longer confined to a specific location or limited by human frailty. The Spirit’s presence in our lives allows us to connect with Jesus in a way that transcends the physical realm.
Fellowship with the Body
Moreover, we’re not alone in this journey. We’re part of a larger community of believers, each bearing the image of Christ, albeit imperfectly. As we fellowship with one another, we catch glimpses of God’s glory, encouraging us to press on towards the day when we’ll see Him face to face.
A Prayer for Illumination
One hymn writer beautifully captured this longing in these words: “Open my eyes that I may see / Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me… Silently now I wait for Thee, / Ready, my God, Thy will to see; / Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit Divine!” This prayer becomes our own as we seek to deepen our relationship with Jesus.
The Promise of His Presence
Jesus asks only that we look and listen, and He promises to be with us until the end of the age. This extraordinary promise buoys our faith, propelling us forward towards the day when we’ll behold Him in all His glory. So let us fix our eyes on the unseen, trusting that Jesus will reveal Himself to us in ways that surpass our wildest imaginations.
