Fearless Trust: The Power of Choice
When fear grips our hearts, where do we turn? For the psalmist, the answer was clear: “In God I trust and am not afraid” (Psalm 56:3, 11). This bold declaration seems to defy logic, especially when faced with overwhelming circumstances. Yet, it’s precisely in those moments that we’re presented with a choice: to succumb to fear or to put our trust in God.
The Paradox of Trust
Fear is a natural response to uncertainty, and the psalmist was no stranger to it. With enemies hot on his heels, he was miserable and wept. But instead of letting fear consume him, he chose to trust in God. This decision wasn’t based on his circumstances, but on his conviction that God was trustworthy.
Living a Life of Trust
Stephen Macchiarel shares the inspiring story of his friend Joanna, a woman who embodies the discipline of living by faith. According to Joanna, “The disciplines of choosing to live by faith and practicing the presence of God lead naturally into the disciplines of living a life of gratitude, a lifestyle of forgiveness, and the ongoing willingness to wait patiently for God to work in our lives in ways that please and honor him.” By choosing to trust, we open ourselves up to a life of freedom from fear and anxiety.
The Freedom of Trust
Trusting God doesn’t mean we’ll never feel fear again. It means we’ll face our fears head-on, knowing that God is with us. As we trust, we’ll begin to experience a sense of peace that transcends our circumstances. We’ll discover that the beautiful paradox of trust is that it sets us free from the grip of fear.
Embracing the Paradox
So, what will you choose today? Will you let fear dictate your path, or will you put your trust in God? Remember, trust is a choice, and it’s a choice that can transform your life. As you choose to trust, you’ll find that you’re no longer afraid, and that’s the greatest paradox of all.
