From Brokenness to Intimacy: Embracing God’s Sovereignty

Embracing Brokenness: The Path to Intimacy with God

The Bible reminds us that “brokenness” is not a negative state, but rather a necessary step towards a deeper relationship with God. In Psalm 51:8, we’re encouraged to let our brokenness bring joy and gladness, allowing our restored hearts to rejoice.

Surrendering Our Independence

To truly connect with God, we must first surrender our independence, pride, and self-sufficiency. It’s only when we acknowledge our limitations and weaknesses that we can begin to understand God’s sovereignty and love. This surrender is not a defeat, but rather a liberating act that allows us to tap into God’s power and wisdom.

The Illusion of Control

We often deceive ourselves into thinking that we bring something to the table when seeking to reconcile with God. However, the truth is that our efforts are futile without His intervention. God requires an unconditional surrender, not because He’s a tyrant, but because He desires a genuine, heart-to-heart connection with us.

The Rock of Jesus

We have two options: we can choose to humble ourselves, confess our sins, and acknowledge our need for Jesus, or we can resist and allow God to break us of our pride and stubbornness. As Matthew 21:44 reminds us, if we refuse to surrender, God will use circumstances to bring us to our knees.

Blessed Brokenness

Just as Jesus broke bread at the Last Supper, God takes our brokenness, blesses it, and uses it for His glory. This process may be painful, but it’s ultimately redemptive. As we surrender to God, we can experience the joy and gladness that comes from being restored to our Creator.

A Prayer of Surrender

May we echo the prayer of Psalm 51:8, asking God to hear our joy and gladness, even in the midst of brokenness. May we rejoice in the knowledge that our brokenness is not a hindrance, but rather a stepping stone to a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.
