Preparing the Way for God’s Glory
As we embark on a journey to experience God’s revelation and unfolding glory, there’s a crucial step we must take: consecration. Throughout Scripture, God has consistently called His people to purify themselves, repent, and consecrate themselves before revealing His majesty.
A Pattern of Preparation
Before each significant event in biblical history, God instructed His people to prepare themselves spiritually. This pattern is evident in:
- Exodus 12:15, Luke 12:1, and 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, where God commanded the Israelites to consecrate themselves before leaving Egypt.
- Exodus 19:10, where Moses was instructed to consecrate himself before meeting God on the mountain.
- Joshua 3:5, where the Israelites were told to consecrate themselves before crossing the Jordan River.
- And many other instances, including before God revealed sin in the camp (Joshua 7:13), before the anointing of a new king (1 Samuel 16:5), and before the entrance of Jesus onto the scene (Matthew 3:2).
The Power of Consecration
Consecration is not just a ritual; it’s a transformative process that prepares us for God’s presence. When we consecrate ourselves, we create space for God’s glory to manifest in our lives. This is evident in 2 Chronicles 5:11-14, where the priests consecrated themselves before the dedication of the temple, and God showed up in such glory that the priests could not minister.
A Prayer for Radical Consecration
As we seek to experience God’s glory, let us pray for radical consecration. May we echo the prayer of Solomon in 2 Chronicles 6 and 7, pleading for mercy, repentance, and forgiveness. May we ask God to:
“Make me holy. Work in me Your redemption from all iniquity and purify me for Yourself, for Your own possession, zealous for good deeds, doing what is good and right (Titus 2:14). Cleanse me and free me of lawlessness, so that I will be eager to please You.”
Will you join me in praying this prayer, seeking to consecrate ourselves for God’s glory?
