Embracing Inclusivity: A Philosophy for Life
As I reflect on my daughter’s preschool days, I’m reminded of a valuable lesson she learned early on: the importance of making room for others. The school’s philosophy was simple yet powerful: create an environment where every student feels included and valued. This philosophy has had a profound impact on my daughter’s life, and ours as a family.
A Culture of Inclusion
I’ve witnessed firsthand how this philosophy has shaped my daughter’s interactions with her peers. On the playground, at school, and during social gatherings, she effortlessly navigates relationships, ensuring everyone feels seen and heard. It’s a beautiful thing to observe, and it’s a testament to the power of inclusivity.
A Homegrown Philosophy
This philosophy has also taken root in our home. When friends and neighbors visit, we make a conscious effort to include everyone, regardless of age or background. It’s not always easy, but it’s essential for building a sense of community and belonging.
A Lesson from Jesus
As I ponder the significance of inclusivity, I’m reminded of Jesus’ life and mission. He came to earth to make room for each of us, to offer salvation and redemption to all people. His life was a powerful rebuke to exclusion and marginalization. He opened doors, literally and figuratively, to those who were cast aside.
The Power of Welcome
Jesus’ welcome is still available to us today. He knocks on the doors of our hearts, inviting us to experience His love and acceptance. As we respond to His invitation, we’re empowered to extend that same welcome to others. We can create spaces where everyone feels valued and included.
Reflections and Challenges
As I reflect on the importance of inclusivity, I’m compelled to ask myself some tough questions:
- Have I made room for Jesus in my life today?
- Where do I need Jesus to make room for me?
- Who in my life needs me to make room for them?
A Prayer of Gratitude
I’m grateful for Jesus’ unwavering welcome and acceptance. Even when life may exclude me, He’s always there, beside me. Thank You, Lord, for preparing a place for me.
