The Power of Unconditional Love
As I reflect on my life’s journey, spanning nearly eight decades, I am reminded of the countless lessons I’ve learned and discoveries I’ve made. While I could share stories about my journey from agnosticism to faith, or my experiences with the Holy Spirit, there is one lesson that stands out above the rest: learning to love those who are difficult to love.
The Importance of Love
This lesson is crucial because God’s Word places a strong emphasis on love. Our Lord teaches us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, reminds us that without love, our accomplishments, no matter how good or commendable, are worthless.
A Personal Struggle
I recall a challenging situation with a fellow staff member at Campus Crusade for Christ. I struggled to love this person, but God reminded me of 1 Peter 5:7, “Let him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.” When I chose to love this person by faith, my concerns lifted, and we had a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship.
Loving by Faith
Perhaps you’ve found yourself in a similar situation, wondering how to love someone who is difficult to love. I encourage you to make a list of those individuals and begin to love them by faith. Confess any wrong attitudes you may have, and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with Christ’s love for each of them. Then, seek to meet with them, drawing upon God’s limitless love.
A Life of Love
As you commit to loving others by faith, you’ll discover that there is no shortage of opportunities to do so. Take time to examine your relationships, asking the Lord who you need to express His love for. Pray for that person, and your own attitude about them. Then, reach out to them, and let them know you are praying for them.
Bible Reading: Hebrews 11:6
Thought: Commit to loving others by faith, and watch how it transforms your relationships and your life.
