Finding Shelter in the Storm
A fierce West Texas storm once threatened to engulf my college friends and me, forcing us to make a hasty retreat. As we fled, my friend suddenly slammed on the brakes, pointing to a heart-wrenching scene on the ground. A mother bird, exposed to the torrential rain, had spread her wing over her fallen chick, shielding it from the tempest. The storm’s fury prevented her from returning to the safety of her nest, so she bravely covered her child until the winds passed.
God’s Protective Wing
How many storms is God protecting you from? Right now, His wing shields you from harm. A malicious rumor headed your way is intercepted by an unexpected phone call. A burglar en route to your home gets a flat tire. A drunk driver runs out of gas before crossing your path. As our guardian, God protects us from every trap, every fatal plague, and every terror that lurks in the darkness (Psalm 91:3-6).
The Mystery of Suffering
But what about the bad things that do happen? The job transfer, the abusive parent, the loss of a loved one? If God is our guardian, why do we suffer? Perhaps we need to redefine what we mean by “bad.” God views our lives like a movie – He’s read the script, and He knows how the story unfolds. When challenges come, He’s not surprised; He’s already written the ending.
Trust in the Storm
So, when fear grips your heart, remember: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” (Psalm 56:3). Trust that God is directing your steps, delighting in every detail of your life (Psalm 37:23-24). He’s the one pulling over to the side of the road, opening the door, and inviting you to climb in. Don’t you feel safer knowing He’s in control?
A Life Surrendered to Christ
Are you ready to surrender your life to Christ? You can start your journey today with a simple yet powerful prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and ask You to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
This is just the beginning of an incredible journey – one that may not always be easy, but will never be lonely.
