Unbridled Life: Embracing the Power of God’s Indwelling Spirit
A Refreshing Oasis in the Desert of Life
Imagine having a constant source of refreshment and renewal in your life, a wellspring of vitality that never runs dry. This is the promise of Jesus, who said, “The water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water” (John 4:14). This “river of living water” (John 7:38) is the Holy Spirit, who indwells believers and empowers them to live a life of purpose and meaning.
A Personal Experience of Abundant Life
I recall the 17 years my family spent on a farm, surrounded by deep ravines and underground springs. Our home was small, but the ravine was massive, providing endless fun for our children and a constant supply of fresh water for our family and the 70,000 chickens we raised. The Salmon River, which originated in our ravine, grew from a small stream to a mighty river, eventually joining the Fraser River and flowing into the Pacific Ocean. This experience taught me that God’s Spirit is like a persistent river, flowing relentlessly and finding new pathways when obstacles arise.
The Persistent River of God’s Spirit
Jesus is like that river, persistently working in our lives, even when we face challenges and setbacks. Just as the stream would find a new path when clogged with leaves, God’s Spirit will always find a way to flow through us, even when our hearts are cluttered with sin and distractions. But we must keep our hearts clean and open to His presence, allowing Him to flow freely and touch the lives of those around us.
Enlarging the River of Life
As we yield to God’s Spirit, our lives become like the growing Salmon River, expanding and touching more lives. Be encouraged! In the midst of adversity, remember that God’s Spirit is always present, working to enlarge His kingdom through you. Keep your eyes fixed on the Source, not the circumstances, and trust that His life-giving power will flow through you, reflecting His glory to all.
Prayer of Gratitude
Father, thank You for Your Spirit, whose life flows in and out of us, touching everyone we meet every day. Thank You for using our bodies to reflect Your glory! Amen.
