The Power of a Simple Question
In our fast-paced world, we often greet each other with a familiar phrase: “How are you?” But how often do we truly mean it? Do we take the time to gaze into someone’s eyes, decipher their facial expressions, or read between the lines of an email?
A Personal Experience
I recall a difficult encounter with a coworker that left me feeling isolated and rejected. However, God’s timely intervention came in the form of a friend who called to check in on me, sensing that I needed prayer. Her call was a balm to my soul. The next day, a colleague offered to lend a helping hand, going above and beyond what was expected. And when I visited my seamstress, she asked about my well-being in a way that was unprecedented in our five-year relationship. It was clear that God was working behind the scenes to uplift me.
The Ripple Effect of Kindness
These small acts of kindness had a profound impact on my day. They reminded me that even in the midst of chaos, there is always room for compassion and empathy. When we take the time to notice someone who appears sad or overwhelmed, we can make a tangible difference in their life. A simple email, card, or question – “How are you doing?” – can be a powerful catalyst for encouragement.
A Call to Action
Dear Father, we confess that we often get caught up in our busy lives and forget to truly see those around us. Help us to prioritize people over our to-do lists, to look into their eyes, and to ask the question that matters: “How are you doing?” May we be instruments of hope and comfort to those around us. Amen.
