Expectant Faith: A Lesson from a Child
As I reflect on the concept of expectant faith, I’m reminded of a powerful encounter with my granddaughter, Tabitha. During a sleepover at our house, she was bursting with excitement, not just because she got to spend quality time with us, but because she was eager to go fishing with her grandfather the next day.
The Power of Childlike Anticipation
As we tucked her into bed, we chatted about her day and decided to pray for a sunny day, hoping to avoid fishing in the rain. The next morning, Tabitha rushed to the front door, flinging it open to see if God had answered our prayer. Her eagerness was palpable, and it struck a chord within me. When was the last time I had been that enthusiastic about seeing God’s response to my prayers?
A Humbling Realization
Children possess an unbridled faith that can be both inspiring and humbling. As Jesus so aptly put it, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). It’s a poignant reminder that we, as adults, often need to relearn the art of trusting and believing.
A Prayer for Faith
Lord, you entrust us with the responsibility of guiding our children and grandchildren, yet it’s their unwavering faith that often puts us to shame. Help us to recapture the innocence and trust of childhood, to eagerly watch and wait for your responses to our prayers. Amen.
