Living a Life that Invites Inquiry
As Christians, we often struggle to express our faith in a world that may not always welcome or understand it. But what if we could live in such a way that our actions and attitudes spark curiosity and inquiry from those around us?
A Life of Supernatural Love and Joy
A successful businessman recently shared his advice on how to thrive as a Christian in a secular environment. His words of wisdom, however, extend far beyond the corporate world. He encouraged his colleagues to “live a life that invites inquiry.” But what does that mean, exactly? Are we living our faith in a way that is noticeably different from the prevailing culture? Do our neighbors see us demonstrating unselfish acts of kindness and compassion that defy explanation?
A Powerful Example
The apostle Paul and his friend Silas provide a powerful example of what it means to live a life that invites inquiry. Despite being beaten and jailed for sharing the Gospel, they responded with prayer and song, trusting in God’s sovereignty. Their response was so remarkable that it prompted the jailer to ask, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30, The Message). When was the last time someone asked you about your faith? What was your response?
Inviting Inquiry through Our Actions
It’s not about hiding our struggles or difficulties from others, but about allowing God to produce supernatural love, joy, peace, and patience in the face of trial. This kind of response invites inquiry and can spark meaningful conversations about our faith. As we strive to live a life that invites inquiry, we must remember to trust God to give us the right words at the right time.
Praying for the Desire to Live a Life of Inquiry
Father God, grant me the desire, willingness, and ability to live a life that invites inquiry. Help me trust you to put the right words in my mouth at the right times. May my life be a reflection of your love and grace, and may it spark curiosity and inquiry from those around me.
