Soul Restoration: From Brokenness to Beauty

The Master Restorer

“He restores my soul.” These four words, found in Psalm 23:3, hold a profound truth about God’s character. He is in the business of restoration, and His desire is to redeem every soul.

Understanding Our Personhood

When I first moved to Canada, a pastor’s words struck a chord in me: “You are a spirit, you live in a body, and you have a soul.” This simple yet profound statement helped me grasp the complexities of my personhood. I realized that my soul, comprising my mind, will, and emotions, was not automatically redeemed when I received Christ as my Savior. While my spirit was set free, my mind, will, and emotions still required restoration.

The Landscape of My Soul

The landscape of my soul was once rocky, marred by lies, hurt, and disappointments. But Christ wanted to bring beauty, wholeness, and restoration to those areas. Together, we worked on removing the rocks and rubble, weeding and tilling the soil. We focused on nurturing my soul quality, and slowly but surely, the landscape began to transform.

Pouring Out to Others

About a year ago, while leading a group of women through an exercise on speaking words of blessing and encouragement to one another, a participant shared a profound insight: “God has been restoring your soul so that you may pour it out to others.” I believe this is God’s desire for each of us. As we invite Christ into every place of brokenness, He restores us to beauty and wholeness, enabling us to pour out His love and restoration to others.

From Desert to Garden

In this way, the desert can become a garden, teeming with life and beauty. As we allow God to restore our souls, we become instruments of restoration in the lives of those around us.

A Prayer of Gratitude

Dear God, thank you for restoring my soul. Show me today where I can help water another soul and be part of your restoration process. Amen.
