A Glimpse of Unwavering Devotion
As I stood still at the traffic lights, my gaze wandered to the car in front of me. A tender moment caught my attention – a woman leaning in, her face inches from her passenger’s. I assumed it was a romantic gesture, a public display of affection between young lovers. But as I continued to observe, I realized the object of her affection was not a partner, but her toddler son. She was meticulously cleaning his face, fussing over him, and showering him with love. It was a poignant display of maternal devotion.
The Power of Intimacy
This everyday scene suddenly took on a deeper meaning as I recalled the biblical account of Mary Magdalene’s uninhibited worship. She wept, wiping Jesus’ feet with her hair, and anointed them with ointment. In that moment, I was struck by the Greek word “proskyneo,” which means to worship or come towards as if to kiss. It’s not about romantic love, but about trust, respect, and intimacy. Just as this mother longed to be close to her child, our Creator yearns to be close to us, His children.
A Call to Reverence
The question is, will we allow God to draw near, to clean us up, and make us presentable? Will we open ourselves to His loving touch, His encouragement, and His guidance? As we reflect on our relationship with God, let us ask ourselves: are we ready to surrender to His love, to reverence Him with humility and obedience?
A Prayer of Surrender
Lord, You are awe-inspiring, holy, and majestic. Yet, You desire our worship, our obedience, and our love. We come before You with bended knees and humble hearts, saying, “Our Lord, come! Visit us once more today, in Jesus’ name, amen.”
