Finding Freedom in Trust
The Struggle to Trust
Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to truly trust? It’s a concept that can be difficult to grasp, especially when our natural instincts are to try to control the outcome. I know I’m guilty of this. In my prayers, I often find myself trying to persuade God to do things my way, to give me what I think I need. But what if we flipped this approach on its head?
Letting Go of Expectations
What if, instead of trying to dictate the outcome, we focused on releasing our grip on the situation? It’s a scary thought, I know. But what if, in doing so, we found a sense of freedom and peace that we never thought possible? For me, it’s been a game-changer. When I let go of my expectations and focus on who God is, I’m filled with a sense of gladness and trust.
God’s Characteristics
As the Psalmist so eloquently puts it, “Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield” (Psalm 33:20). God is our rock, our refuge, and our guide. He is the one who longs for us to rest in His wisdom and protection.
A Prayer for Trust
Dear Lord, help me to let go of my demands for a preconceived outcome. Help me to release my efforts to control. I turn my attention to Who You are. I want to trust You, but I know I can’t do it without Your help. I believe You will help me, because You long for me to rest in Your wisdom and protection. Amen.
The Result of Trust
When we trust in God, we can be glad, not because of the outcome, but because of who God is. We can rest in His goodness, His love, and His sovereignty. As Psalm 33:21 so beautifully states, “For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in his holy name.”
