Eternal Legacy: What Truly Matters
As we navigate the journey of life, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and lose sight of what truly has lasting value. A recent experience served as a poignant reminder of this essential truth.
A Pile of Ashes
While sorting through old financial and ministry records, I was struck by the realization that each box represented a year’s worth of effort, dedication, and hard work. Yet, as I prepared to discard them, I felt a pang of sadness. Were all those late nights, early mornings, and endless hours of toil really worth nothing more than a pile of ashes?
A Timeless Truth
It was then that I recalled a powerful quote: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.” These words, penned by C.T. Studd, brought comfort and perspective to my moment of doubt. They reminded me that our work, though it may seem insignificant in the grand scheme, takes on eternal significance when done with Christ at the forefront of our minds and hearts.
The Fire of Accountability
The apostle Paul wrote, “That Day will appear with fire, and the fire will test everyone’s work to show what sort of work it was.” (1 Corinthians 3:11-12) This verse serves as a sobering reminder that our actions, whether big or small, will one day be judged by the One who sees all. The question is, what will be left standing when the fire of accountability sweeps through our lives?
Prioritizing Eternal Values
As I gazed upon the pile of ashes in our backyard, I was reminded of the importance of making each day count for eternity. Even in our twilight years, when energy levels may wane, we must continue to prioritize eternal values. It’s a call to refocus, to recommit, and to ensure that our lives are being lived with purpose and intentionality.
