The True Meaning of Worship
When we think of worship, we often imagine singing praises or attending church services. However, the Bible reveals a deeper understanding of worship, one that is rooted in obedience to God’s commands.
A Test of Trust
In Genesis 22:5, Abraham is instructed by God to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac. This was a test of Abraham’s trust and obedience, and he passes by declaring, “We will worship and then we will come back to you.” Abraham’s statement reveals that he understood worship as an act of surrendering to God’s will, even when it seems impossible or unreasonable.
Obedience as Worship
Abraham’s example teaches us that true worship is not just about singing or praying, but about obeying God’s word. When we choose to follow God’s instructions, even when they challenge our flesh, we demonstrate our love and trust in Him. This kind of obedience requires us to surrender our desires, fears, and doubts, and instead, rely on God’s provision and guidance.
What’s Holding You Back?
As we reflect on Abraham’s story, we must ask ourselves: Is there anything or anyone we love more than God? Do we prioritize our own desires over God’s commands? The first commandment reminds us to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. When we put God first, we acknowledge that He is our source, our creator, and our sustainer.
A Life of True Worship
A life of complete obedience to God is the highest form of worship. It requires us to surrender our will, our desires, and our fears to Him. As we walk in obedience, we experience God’s provision, blessing, and guidance. Let us pray for the grace to walk in complete obedience to God, remembering that our very breath belongs to Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please give us the grace to walk in complete obedience to you as our act of true worship. Help us to continually remember that you are our source and that we were created by you and for you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
