Faithful Partnerships: A Testament to Enduring Love
As I reflect on the life of my late mother-in-law, Ella Renetta Kehler, I am reminded of the power of commitment and devotion. Her remarkable story serves as a shining example of what it means to embody the qualities outlined in Titus 2:5: “to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”
A Lifetime of Devotion
Ella’s marriage to my father-in-law spanned an impressive 60 years, with 17 of those years marked by his residence in a long-term-care hospital. Despite the challenges that came with his brain tumor and subsequent brain damage, Ella remained steadfast in her dedication to her husband. She visited him six days a week, only relenting to her children’s pleas for her to take a day of rest on the seventh day. Her unwavering commitment to her partner is a testament to the enduring power of love.
The Secrets to a Lasting Union
So, what are the secrets to “sticking” with your partner through thick and thin? For me, it begins with a deep love and respect for God. When I surrendered control of my life to Him, He instilled in me a sense of purpose and direction. The directive to wives in Titus 2:5 became a guiding principle in my marriage, reminding me to be kind and submissive to my husband. This verse has been a constant source of strength, helping me to resist the whispers of doubt and temptation.
A Legacy of Faithfulness
My mother-in-law’s example has inspired countless women who knew her, demonstrating that faithfulness is not only possible but also essential to a thriving marriage. As I look to her legacy, I am reminded of the importance of honoring my vows and maintaining a strong connection with my partner.
A Prayer of Gratitude
Father, I thank You for forming the family and for providing us with the strength and wisdom we need to be faithful to one another. You have promised that there will never be a temptation without a way of escape, and I am grateful for Your unwavering presence in my life. Amen.
