The Power of Unconditional Love
In a world torn apart by hate, war, and fear, Jesus Christ gave a revolutionary commandment to His followers: “Love each other just as much as I love you” (John 13:34, 35). This was a radical departure from the norms of the time, where Jews and Gentiles, Greeks and Romans, were deeply divided and filled with animosity towards one another.
A Breath of Heavenly Love
But then came the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and the day of Pentecost, bringing with it a wave of divine love that transformed the lives of those who received Him. As believers chose to obey Jesus’ command, they began to love one another with a supernatural love that amazed the pagan world. The phrase “How they love one another!” became a testament to the power of God’s love.
A Miracle of God’s Love
Within a few short years, the gospel spread like wildfire throughout the known world, captivating multitudes in the decadent Roman Empire. The miracle of God’s love had taken hold, and it was a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, today’s Christian community often falls short of this ideal, with suspicion, jealousy, criticism, and conflict rampant between Christians, churches, and denominations.
A Highly Desirable Alternative
However, those individuals and churches that do demonstrate supernatural love are warmly received by both believers and nonbelievers alike. They represent a beacon of hope, offering a highly desirable alternative to the secular society that surrounds us. So, how can we love supernaturally? The answer lies in faith.
Faith: The Key to Supernatural Love
God’s Word commands us to love, and it also promises to enable us to do what He commands (John 5:14, 15). By faith, we can tap into the power of God’s love and demonstrate it to a world that desperately needs it. As we obey Jesus’ command to love one another, we will prove to the world that we are His disciples, and the impact will be profound.
