The Urgent Need for Spiritual Renewal
A provocative sign caught my attention recently: “Residents needed: No experience required.” It seemed too good to be true – just sign up and you’re in. But this got me thinking about a more pressing issue: the need for spiritual residency in the Kingdom of God.
A Global Crisis
Many industrialized countries are struggling with low birthrates and an aging population. In fact, several European nations have seen their fertility rates drop below the level required to maintain their current population. Some have even introduced “baby bonuses” to incentivize people to have children. So, it was remarkable when the National Center for Health Statistics announced that the fertility rate in America had finally reached the level necessary for a generation to replace itself.
A Deeper Concern
However, as Christians, we should be more concerned about another kind of fertility rate: the rate of people being born again into the Kingdom of God. According to research by the Barna Group, the rate of born-again Christians in America has remained stagnant, with no significant growth. Imagine waking up to a headline that reads: “Christian Fertility Rate Worldwide on the Upswing; Reaches Highest Level in 35 years!” That would be truly front-page news.
The Call to Spiritual Renewal
Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus comes to mind: “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (John 3:3-6) Nicodemus asked how this was possible, and Jesus explained that it requires being born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. This spiritual rebirth is essential for entering the Kingdom of God.
A Call to Action
As Christians, we should be concerned about the spiritual fertility rate. We need to focus on sharing our faith and encouraging others to experience spiritual rebirth. It’s time to take action and make a difference in our world. Let’s work together to increase the spiritual fertility rate and bring more people into the Kingdom of God.
