Unmasking Our True Selves
We often wear masks to hide our true identities from others. We pretend to be someone we’re not, people-pleasing to avoid rejection. But why do we feel the need to conceal ourselves? The answer lies in our deep-seated desire to be liked and belong. We fear that if others truly knew us, they wouldn’t accept us.
The Liberating Truth
Fortunately, there’s a higher power that knows us intimately, and yet, loves us unconditionally. As David so eloquently puts it, “O LORD, you have searched me thoroughly and have known me…You are acquainted with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1-3, Amplified). God is aware of our every move, our every need, and lovingly provides for us. So, why do we struggle to believe this?
Misconceptions About Love
We often equate love with feelings of happiness and comfort. If life is good, we assume God loves us. But when challenges arise, we doubt His love. We play a game of “He loves me; He loves me not,” bargaining with God and expecting Him to reciprocate our actions. When our expectations aren’t met, we conclude that God doesn’t love us.
The Ultimate Proof of Love
The greatest demonstration of God’s love is Jesus, who sacrificed His life so we could live abundantly, both now and in eternity. Moreover, God shows His love in practical ways, weaving “I love you” notes into the fabric of our daily lives. Can you spot them?
Gratitude Unlocks Salvation
As we express gratitude for these tangible blessings, we open ourselves up to God’s salvation (Psalm 50:23). Here are a few examples of God’s love notes in my life:
- The warm, golden light of the late afternoon sun on my wall
- The vibrant pink flowers blooming on my cactus plant
- The gentle rustling of leaves in the trees
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving me always and being with me always. Your love is the anchor that holds me fast, the comfort that sustains me, and the hope that guides me.
