Eternal Treasures in a Fleeting World
In a world where everything seems temporary, it’s refreshing to remember that some things are forever. The apostle Paul reminds us of this in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, where he writes, “The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.”
The Impermanence of Earthly Possessions
Let’s face it – most things we own or experience in life have a limited shelf life. Our possessions break, our relationships fade, and our accomplishments are eventually forgotten. But amidst this impermanence, there are three treasures that stand the test of time: God, our Christian community, and our worship of God. These are the eternal constants that bring meaning and purpose to our lives.
A Glimpse of Eternity
As we look forward to the day of Christ’s return, we can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and awe. We join the angels in their eager expectation, gazing up at the clouds, waiting to welcome our Lord in all his glory. In that moment, we’ll finally see the culmination of our faith, and our hearts will overflow with praise and gratitude.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Dear God, I long for the day when I’ll see you face to face. Until then, I praise you for the promise of your return. Help me to serve you faithfully, despite my weaknesses and shortcomings. Thank you for the eternal treasures you’ve given me – your presence, my Christian brothers and sisters, and the joy of worshiping you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
