Refining Our Character: Embracing God’s Transforming Power

Refining Our Character

The pursuit of spiritual growth is a lifelong journey. We strive to become more like Christ, but often find ourselves falling short. As we reflect on Job 23:10-11, we’re reminded of the importance of perseverance and humility.

The Desire to Please God

“He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.” These words from Job echo the deep longing within us to be refined and purified, to emerge from life’s trials as a testament to God’s transforming power. We yearn to be able to say, without hesitation, that our feet have closely followed His steps, that we’ve kept to His way without turning aside.

The Reality of Our Struggle

Yet, we’re honest with ourselves – we’re not yet gold. We stumble, we falter, and we fail. Our intentions are good, but our execution often falls short. We try to follow His path, but sometimes we lose our way.

The Grace That Sustains Us

Thankfully, God’s grace bridges the gap between our desires and our reality. It’s His mercy that covers our sin, perfecting in us the character of Jesus. In His kindness, He forgives us and empowers us to serve Him with holiness and joy.

A Prayer of Surrender

Magnificent Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, I confess my sin and my inability to follow Your paths. Forgive me. I commit my life to serve You in holiness and joy. Thank You for Your grace, which covers my sin, and perfect in me the character of Jesus. Through Him I pray. Amen.
