Living Under Scrutiny: The Unseen Audience Watching Our Faith

The Unseen Audience

As believers, we are called to live a life that honors God, and Philippians 3:17 reminds us to set an example for others to follow. I still remember the words of a childhood song: “Brother, I pray thee, lift higher thy light, someone is following thee; following thee both by day and by night, someone is following thee.” This simple melody holds a profound truth – our lives are being observed, and people are taking note of our actions.

A Chance Encounter

Recently, my husband Marvin and I returned from a conference in Toronto, exhausted from our travels. As we settled into our economy class seats, we quickly fell asleep, only to be awakened by the flight attendant offering us drinks. Marvin ordered a coke, while I opted for water. It was then that the man sitting behind us surprised us by addressing us by name. He had recognized us from college, where he had been a classmate of our daughter. What struck me was his candid admission – he had been observing us from the moment we entered the airport terminal, wondering if we would travel first class and what drinks we would order. He wanted to see if our actions aligned with our faith.

The Silent Observers

This encounter got me thinking – how many people observe us, watching to see if our walk matches our talk? We may never know who is watching, but it’s a sobering reminder that our lives are under scrutiny. The question is, what do people see when they observe us? Do they see a reflection of God’s love and grace, or do they see hypocrisy and inconsistency?

The Impact of Our Lives

As we go about our daily lives, let’s remember that we have an unseen audience watching us. They may not always tell us, but they are observing, and our actions can either draw them closer to God or push them further away. Let’s strive to live a life that honors God, a life that is authentic, transparent, and consistent with our faith.
