Living a Life That Honors God
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to live our lives in a way that reflects His character and values. The apostle John reminds us, “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6, NLT). But what does it mean to live like Jesus?
Dependency on God
Jesus lived each day dependent on His Father, and we can do the same. We can rely on God as our strength, life, and sufficiency, trusting that He will provide everything we need. By doing so, we can live with confidence and peace, knowing that our lives are in His hands.
Faithfulness to God’s Will
Jesus was faithful to His Father’s plan and will for His life, never drifting away or following it half-heartedly. As followers of Jesus, we can be faithful to what God has called us to do, doing His will whole-heartedly. This means staying true to our purpose and living with intentionality.
Obedience to God’s Will
Jesus obeyed His Father’s will without delay, willingly and joyfully. As God’s children, we have the choice to obey God’s will in our lives every day. Through obedience, we can experience a joy-filled heart and a meaningful life.
Motivated by Pleasing God
Jesus lived to please His Father, and we should have the same motivation. Our aim should be to be well pleasing to Him, whether we are present or absent. When we live to do what is well pleasing in His sight, we will know His smile of approval upon our lives.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit’s power, and we can be too. We can live each day in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, just like Jesus did. By being filled with the Spirit, we can walk as Jesus walked and live as Jesus lived.
As we strive to live like Jesus, let us remember that it is possible to live each day dependent on God, faithful to His will, obedient to His commands, motivated by pleasing Him, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Ask God to fill you, empower you, and lead you step by step into His plan and purpose for you.
