Finding Purpose in the Background: Embracing Your Role in the Kingdom

Embracing Our Role in the Kingdom

As we journey through life, it’s easy to get caught up in the desire to be at the forefront of the action. We want to be the ones leading the charge, making the most impact, and receiving the most recognition. But what about those who find themselves at the back of the pack?

The Humble Position of the Danites

In Numbers 2:31, we’re told that the camp of Dan brought up the rear when the armies of Israel were on the march. Yet, despite their position, they were still an integral part of the group. They followed the same guidance, received the same provision, and moved towards the same goal as the rest of the tribes. Their position didn’t diminish their importance or their contribution.

Finding Purpose in Our Placement

If you find yourself feeling like you’re last and least, take heart! You have a vital role to play in the kingdom. Someone must do the behind-the-scenes work, serving Jesus in humble, often unseen ways. And why shouldn’t it be you? Whether you’re in a small village, among the uneducated, or in a tough neighborhood, you can make a difference.

The Importance of the Rear Guard

The Danites occupied a crucial position, picking up stragglers and gathering lost property along the way. While some may be called to forge new paths and explore fresh truth, others are needed to care for those who are falling behind. Every position has its duties, and even the slowest-moving children of God can find ways to bless the entire group.

The Dangers of Complacency

But let’s not forget that the rear guard is also a place of danger. Foes can attack from any side, and the experienced Christian must be prepared to defend and aid those who are struggling. We’re reminded of Amalek’s attack on Israel, where they targeted the weakest and most vulnerable.

A Call to Action

So, my friend, if you’re strong in your faith, don’t neglect those who are weak. Keep an eye out for those who are struggling, and offer them encouragement and guidance. Remember, every position has its duties, and we’re all called to serve one another.

Overcoming the Temptation to Complain

So, how can we overcome the temptation to complain when we’re not “first”? By embracing our role, finding purpose in our placement, and recognizing the importance of our contribution. By doing so, we’ll discover that even in the humblest of positions, we can make a profound impact for the kingdom.
