Finding Peace in the Eye of the Storm
When disaster strikes, our world can be turned upside down. My family experienced this firsthand when our son Charley’s family, displaced by Hurricane Ivan, came to live with us. The storm had ravaged their home in south Alabama, leaving destruction in its wake. As Charley prepared to return to survey the damage, he offered words of comfort that have stayed with me to this day: “It’ll be all right. And if it’s not all right, it’ll still be all right.” This profound statement spoke to a deep trust in God’s providence.
The Refiner’s Fire
In 1 Peter 1:7, we’re reminded that our faith is being refined like gold in the fire of adversity. But this refining process isn’t about making us stronger or more resilient; it’s about revealing the pure gold that God sees in us. Jesus is pleased with the person he is shaping us to be, and he desires that we reflect his glory and honor.
Breaking Down Walls
Often, we try to build walls to protect ourselves from the harsh realities of life. But these walls can prevent us from experiencing true transformation. God wants to do something more wonderful in our lives – to display his praise, glory, and honor in us. To achieve this, we must keep our eyes fixed on him, allowing his presence to guide and orient us.
Following the Treasure Map
God has written the treasure map of our lives, leading us to the precious gold of our true selves. While we may not see the entire map, he gives us glimpses of his presence, reminding us that he is always with us. We must wait on him to interpret our circumstances and lead us forward.
The Blessing of Genuine Faith
In 1 Peter 1:8-9, we’re encouraged to love and believe in Jesus, even when we can’t see him. This trust brings an inexpressible and glorious joy, as we receive the salvation of our souls. May we be blessed with a faith that is tested and proved genuine, made strong by Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Trusting in God’s Good Purposes
As we navigate life’s challenges, may we be blessed with a trusting love that is certain of God’s goodness, even when we don’t understand his ways. May we be filled with an unspeakable joy that sees us through difficult circumstances, and may we be blessed with the faith, love, and joy that comes from believing in him.
