The Longing for Home
Deep within us, there’s a sense of restlessness, a feeling that we don’t quite belong. This homesickness is not something to be ashamed of; in fact, it’s a burden God is more than happy to help us carry. As the Bible reminds us, “He has set eternity in the hearts of men” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV). We know, instinctively, that this world is not our final destination.
A Temporary Abode
This earth is not our forever home. It’s a temporary residence, a place to rest our heads until we reach our true destination. And what a glorious day that will be! When we finally enter God’s presence, we’ll experience a sense of joy and belonging that we’ve never known before.
A Story of Lost and Found
I was reminded of this recently when our dog, Molly, went missing. She’d been with us for only a month, but we’d grown attached to her. When I came home to find her gone, I was devastated. We searched high and low, put up posters, and even asked our friends to pray for her safe return. And then, the miracle happened. Denalyn, my wife, spotted the trash truck, and Molly was reunited with us.
The Celebration of Homecoming
As we welcomed Molly back into our home, I couldn’t help but see the parallels between her story and our own. Just as we searched for Molly, God searches for us. And when we finally come home to Him, there will be a celebration like no other. Those who love us will rejoice, and God Himself will wipe away our tears and welcome us into His presence.
Forever Home
In that moment, all the struggles and hardships of this life will fade away, and we’ll know that we’re finally home. We’ll dwell in the house of our Lord, forever surrounded by His love and presence. So hold on to that hope, dear heart. Your forever home is waiting, and the celebration will be glorious.
