Faith Over Fear: How Trust in God Can Move Mountains

The Power of Faith in Everyday Life

As I reflect on a memorable experience from my past, I am reminded of the importance of faith in overcoming life’s challenges. While living in the Gulf Islands, British Columbia, my brother Tim and I embarked on a landscaping project in our yard. Our goal was to create a beautiful rock garden, but it required moving several large and heavy rocks into place.

A Lesson in Humility

I learned a valuable lesson during this project. While trying to move a wheelbarrow full of rocks, I underestimated its weight and ended up with a bloody nose and injured pride. My brother, Tim, witnessed my struggles and later faced a similar challenge when trying to roll a heavy rock into place. However, his approach was vastly different from mine.

The Difference Faith Makes

Tim’s method was not about relying on his physical strength, but rather on his faith in God. As he grabbed hold of the rock, he lifted, leaned forward, and shouted, “Praise the Lord anyway!” With a newfound sense of determination, he successfully rolled the rock into place. This moment has stuck with me, and whenever I face seemingly insurmountable challenges, I repeat Tim’s phrase, “Praise the Lord anyway.”

A Biblical Reminder

This experience is reminiscent of Zechariah 4:6, which says, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” This verse serves as a powerful reminder that our strength and abilities are not enough to overcome life’s obstacles. Instead, it is through faith in God’s Spirit that we can achieve greatness.

A Prayer for You

As you face your own challenges, I pray that you will remember to “praise the Lord anyway.” May you acknowledge that it is not by your own might or power, but by the Spirit of the Lord Almighty that you can overcome any obstacle. Amen.
