Unconventional Strategies for Unwavering Faith
In a world where success is often measured by grandeur and power, it’s easy to get caught up in the notion that faith must be loud, bold, and attention-grabbing. But what if God’s plans for us are radically different from our own? What if He asks us to take a step back, quiet our doubts, and trust in His sovereignty?
The Unlikely Commander
Joshua, the newly appointed leader of the Israelites, was no stranger to unconventional orders. When God instructed him to remove his sandals, march around the walled city of Jericho seven times, and shout, it seemed like a recipe for disaster. Yet, Joshua had learned from his mentor Moses that trusting God’s seemingly confusing plans always led to victory.
The Power of Humility
In a society that screams, “What you have proves who you are,” it’s countercultural to choose simplicity over extravagance. It’s difficult to imagine that living humbly, seeking righteousness and justice, and mourning could bring blessing and deep satisfaction. But Jesus promised that these habits would yield a life of purpose and fulfillment.
Overcoming Impenetrable Walls
The outcome of Joshua’s obedience was nothing short of miraculous: the walls of Jericho collapsed, and God’s presence was palpable. When faced with God’s unusual directions, we would do well to follow Joshua’s example: quiet our doubts, delve into Scripture, and seek counsel from wise community.
A Prayer for Trust
Father, I confess that my skeptical nature often leads me to question Your orders. I wonder if You truly understand me and my situation. My doubts reveal my lack of faith, but I yearn to trust You more. Help me to quiet my fears and trust in Your sovereignty.
