Listening to the Whisper of God
As I strolled alongside my 6-year-old grandson on the windswept Washington coast, he suddenly stopped and gazed up at me with an unwavering conviction. “Papa, I can hear God’s voice in the wind,” he declared, his eyes sparkling with wonder. We were navigating a winding path, dodging puddles and traversing the grassy hills that led to the beach. The gusty breeze whipped our hair, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore created a soothing melody.
The Voice of Creation
In that moment, my grandson reminded me of a profound truth: God’s presence is woven into the fabric of His creation. Romans 1:20 echoes this sentiment, stating that God’s “invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” The wind, the waves, and the rustling grasses all whisper hints of God’s majesty. As we walked, I realized that my grandson was tuning in to this celestial frequency, sensing the divine in the natural world.
Finding Guidance in Uncertainty
As we wandered through the tall grass and sandy dunes, my grandson’s confidence in my navigational skills began to wane. But in his uncertainty, he found solace in the knowledge that God was watching over us. This trust was rooted in the promise of Luke 12:6-7, which reminds us that God’s gaze is upon us, just as He watches over the smallest creatures. “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Tuning In to God’s Voice
As we journey through life, it’s easy to lose our way. But my grandson’s innocent declaration serves as a poignant reminder: God is always speaking, guiding us through the whispers of His creation. Today, take a moment to listen for His voice. Be still, and let the beauty of the world around you reveal the divine. Know that God sees you, knows your struggles, and is ready to lead you through life’s twists and turns. All you need to do is listen and follow His gentle guidance.
