A Week of Unplanned Twists and Turns
Our family was thrilled to welcome our son and his family from Northern Alberta for a week-long visit. We had planned a fun-filled vacation at Whistler Mountain, complete with hiking, bike rides, and quality time together. The excitement was palpable, especially since we had several milestones to celebrate: a new grandson, an 18th birthday, a 25th wedding anniversary, and Marvin’s and my 65th birthdays.
A Sudden Detour
But fate had other plans. On the day after their arrival, our four-year-old granddaughter, Sarah, took a tumble while getting off the trampoline and broke her arm. The first day of their vacation was suddenly spent at the hospital instead of enjoying the great outdoors. Despite this setback, the older cousins rose to the occasion, finding creative ways to entertain Sarah and keep her spirits high.
A Personal Challenge
Meanwhile, I was facing my own unexpected challenge. A severe case of vertigo struck me, leaving me bedridden for eight hours. The room was spinning, and I needed assistance just to walk to the bathroom. My daughter and husband were my lifelines, helping me navigate this difficult time. Yet, even in the midst of discomfort, I found solace in prayer and praise music. I spent the afternoon communing with God, and it was a truly uplifting experience.
Choosing Gratitude
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. We can either resist and complain or accept and find the silver lining. I chose to focus on the positive, and it made all the difference. By evening, my medication kicked in, and I was able to walk steadily again. It was a powerful reminder that some days don’t go as planned, but that’s when we must rely on our faith and trust in God’s sovereignty.
A Lesson in Acceptance
As I reflect on that week, I’m reminded of the importance of acceptance and gratitude. We can’t always control the circumstances, but we can choose how we respond. Will we let life’s surprises get us down, or will we rise above and find the beauty in the unexpected? I pray that we can learn to accept the things we cannot change, find the strength to change what we can, and trust in God’s wisdom to guide us through life’s ups and downs.
