A Mother’s Unwavering Devotion
As we navigated the winding trail through Northern Alberta’s lush forest, the serene atmosphere enveloped us. The air was filled with the sweet scent of wild roses, blue bells, and wild strawberries, which carpeted the soil beneath the towering Aspens. Our son’s quad ride was a thrilling adventure, until we encountered an unexpected spectacle.
A Fearless Protector
A mother grouse and her brood of chicks suddenly appeared before us, scurrying frantically across our path. The tiny chicks moved as swiftly as their spindly legs could carry them, while the mother stood firm, her tail feathers spread wide, neck feathers ruffled in defense. Her courageous stance was a testament to her unwavering commitment to protect her family at all costs.
A Lesson in Selflessness
We brought the quad to a halt, mesmerized by the heartwarming scene unfolding before us. As the chicks dispersed on either side of the trail, the mother began to cluck rapidly, calling them back to her side. Soon, the chicks reunited with their mother, and the entire family vanished into the underbrush. This brave mother was willing to sacrifice her life for her precious brood, a poignant reminder of the selfless love exhibited by our Good Shepherd.
A Divine Promise
The mother grouse’s actions resonated deeply with me, evoking memories of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for His flock. I recalled His promise in John 10:29, “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” This reassuring verse filled my heart with gratitude, knowing that our Lord watches over us, His children, with unwavering devotion.
Eternal Gratitude
As I reflected on this encounter, I felt compelled to express my deepest gratitude to our Lord Jesus. I thanked Him for protecting us, His little flock, from harm, and for the countless times He has saved us without our knowledge. Only in heaven will we fully comprehend the extent of His divine intervention in our lives. Until then, I remain eternally grateful for His loving care. Amen.
