Trusting God in the Unknown: Embracing Life’s Unexpected Journey

Embracing the Unexpected Journey with Jesus

When we surrender our lives to Jesus, we often expect a smooth ride ahead. Unfortunately, this misconception is perpetuated by well-meaning individuals who misinterpret biblical truths. While Jesus did promise an “easy yoke” (Matthew 11:30) and the apostle Paul spoke of the “Sabbath rest of God” (Hebrews 4:9), these verses emphasize the importance of developing trust in God, not that following Jesus is effortless.

Stepping into God’s Will

To truly experience the transformative power of God, we must step into His will and remain steadfast, trusting that He has our best interests at heart (Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 8:28). As we navigate life’s challenges, God’s Spirit works within and through us, empowering us to persevere.

Learning to Trust in the Midst of Adversity

The apostle Paul exemplifies this trust, declaring, “Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am” (Philippians 4:13MSG). This mindset allows us to confront difficulties head-on, rather than trying to sidestep them. By embracing these challenging seasons, we can witness God’s faithfulness firsthand, just as Paul did (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).

Shifting Our Perspective

To overcome the obstacles in our path, we must undergo a paradigm shift. Instead of lamenting, “Why me?” we should ask, “What do I do with this, God?” This subtle yet profound change in perspective allows us to tap into God’s guidance and wisdom.

Reflecting on Our Journey

Consider the following questions:

  • Why wouldn’t God remove all our problems when we commit our lives to Jesus?
  • What would happen if you prayed, “Lord, help my unbelief?”
  • Where are you currently saying “Why me?” in your life? What would happen if you asked instead, “What do I do with this, God?”

By reframing our thinking and seeking God’s guidance, we can unlock a deeper understanding of His plan for our lives and discover the strength to persevere through even the most daunting challenges.
