Serving Others: The Heartbeat of True Leadership
In a world where self-interest often takes center stage, we need reminders that true greatness lies in serving others. As Mark 10:45 so eloquently puts it, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” This fundamental principle is what sets apart leaders who make a lasting impact from those who merely seek to elevate themselves.
The Unconventional Path of Servanthood
Jesus, the ultimate servant-leader, chose an unconventional path. He opted for humble Nazareth over the grandeur of Jerusalem, his father’s modest carpentry shop over a majestic palace. For three decades, he remained anonymous, shunning the spotlight to focus on serving others. His priorities were clear: prayer took precedence over rest, and the wilderness was preferred over the comforts of the Jordan.
The Unlikely Apostles
Who would Jesus choose as his closest confidants? Not the obedient angels, but flawed, irascible humans like Peter, Andrew, John, and Matthew. When they were fearful, he calmed their storms. When they lacked resources, he provided. Whether it was wine for a wedding or food for a multitude, Jesus supplied their needs. His selflessness inspired loyalty and transformed lives.
A Life of Service
In a world crying out for authentic leaders, we would do well to emulate Jesus’ example. By putting others first, we can make a profound difference. As we strive to serve, we may encounter storms, but with faith, we can still them. We may face uncertainty, but with trust, we can overcome. The world needs more servants like Jesus, who gave his life as a ransom for many. Will you answer the call to serve?
