The Gentleman of Heaven
When we think of Jesus, we often focus on his power, wisdom, and love. But have you ever considered his courtesy? It’s a trait that sets him apart, making him the ultimate gentleman.
A Knock at the Door
Jesus doesn’t barge into our lives; instead, he knocks gently, waiting for our invitation to enter. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock” (Revelations 3:20 NASB). This gentle tap is a reminder that he respects our boundaries and desires a personal connection with us.
Gifts and Service
When Jesus enters our lives, he brings gifts – not just any gifts, but the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). He serves us with humility, just as he served his disciples by washing their feet (John 13:4-5). He’s the perfect host, ensuring that our needs are met and our hearts are filled.
Respect and Attention
Jesus is courteous enough to tell us his name (Exodus 3:15) and call us by ours (John 10:3). He listens attentively, never interrupting or rushing us. He’s always on time, never early or late, because he operates on a divine schedule (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
Opening Doors
Just as a gentleman opens doors for others, Jesus opens doors of opportunity for us. Paul preached at Troas because “the Lord had opened a door” (2 Corinthians 2:12 NIV). Christ’s courtesy is a reflection of his abundant respect for us.
A Seat at the Table
In Ephesians 2:6, we’re told that Christ “raised us up with him and gave us a seat with him in the heavens.” He pulls out the chair for us, inviting us to sit at the table of his love. This act of courtesy is a reminder of his desire to honor and cherish us.
Receiving His Love
In a world where people can be rude and inconsiderate, we crave courtesy and respect. Jesus offers us exactly that. He longs to show us love, respect, and honor. As we receive his courtesy, we’ll find it easier to extend the same to others.
Reflecting His Love
Let’s not hurry past this thought. Let’s bask in the courtesy of Christ, our groom. As we reflect on his love, we’ll be more likely to offer the same to others. Receive his love, and you’ll find yourself becoming more like him – a gentleman or lady of heaven.
